The Welsh Hills School was founded in 1979 when a group of parents approached intermediate school teacher Catherine Naul to create a school that would provide an alternative to the standard public education then available in Granville. Together with Montessori teacher MaryAnn Reeb, who is still a member of our faculty, Naul designed an educational program "to meet the needs of students rather than to meet a specific content" and brought a new opportunity to families seeking a high quality, process-based education.
In our 25-year history, the school has moved several times from its original house on Welsh Hills Road to the Bancroft House in the village of Granville, to the Denison University campus and, in 1996, to the current site with a donation of a farmhouse and a large tract of land. With the construction of our new schoolhouse gifted by the Longaberger family, and a successful capital campaign, the school added a Great Room and classrooms to the original farmhouse maintaining the home-like ambiance throughout. |
Today Welsh Hills School serves families from Granville and several surrounding communities, providing an excellent education through its fully accredited programs that are geared to develop kids who become confident and competent lifelong learners. Our alumni typically continue their education through top universities and continue on to successful careers, continuing their process of lifelong learning.
Welsh Hills continues to provide a nurturing and safe environment for children and has developed programs that include music, drama, spanish, art, physical education, and service learning. We are a technology leader with all students in 4th grade and higher using their laptops as classroom learning tools in our wireless-networked facility.
Throughout its history, Welsh Hills School has continued to provide an excellent educational opportunity for area families.
